Kareena’s ‘emotional’ bond with Akshay
The Kapoor girl admits that she’s most comfortable working with Bollywood’s favourite hunk
Kareena Kapoor says that she feels most comfortable while working with Akshay Kumar as she has watched him giving his first shot as a school kid. On the other hand, Akshay has known Kareena right from school! "I have done about nine movies with Akshay and I have known him since he has done his first film, when he was giving his first shot. I was behind the camera so that’s the relationship I have with Akshay, its an emotional relationship, I am most comfortable with Akshay Kumar as my co-star maybe because he has seen me in my school uniform with two pigtails hanging around, so it’s a relationship which I think you feel really close to," Kareena said.According to the actress, Akshay is the most ‘shining’ star that Bollywood has right now. "As of today he is completely rocking, he’s the shinning star of Bollywood. It feels great because I have been with him through the journey of his career and I feel really happy," she said. Working with Akshay Kumar is an absolute pleasure, gushes the actress and given a choice, she would always pick him as her favourite co-actor."He is a pivotal part of this film which is a great role for him and I think working with Akshay for me is always a lot of fun and games and I just do not realize when we start shooting and when we finish. Throughout my career I think I have enjoyed working with Akshay Kumar the most and I hope to continue to work with him throughout my career,” Kareena signs off. Courtesy:

Akshay Kumar to play Tatya Tope
If things go as planned, actor Akshay Kumar will be seen playing Tatya Tope, the legendary hero of India’s first freedom struggle, in a film.
The movie will reportedly be co-produced by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and Bollywood producer Firoz Nadiadwala. Vinay Shukla (of ‘Godmother’ fame) will direct the film. The film’s story will be set in 1857, the first Indian revolt against the colonial British. Besides Tatya Tope, other prominent figures like Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi and Nanasaheb Peshwa (Tope’s good friend) will be part of the film’s story. The tale will be told from the point of view of Tatya Tope and his alliance with Rani Laxmibai and Nanasaheb.Producer Firoz Nadiadwala, who shares an excellent working relationship with Akshay Kumar, has reportedly talked to the actor about the film. Akshay has expressed interest but has yet to sign on the dotted line. Rumour also has it that Deepika Padukone is being considered for the part of Rani Laxmibai. If Deepika agrees to act in the film, it would be her second film with Akshay after "Chandni Chowk To China" which is presently on the floors. Courtesy:

Daredevil Akki!![]() If the Kolkata Knight Riders have Shah Rukh Khan’s charisma backing them and Preity Zinta has lent her appeal to the Mohali team in the Indian Premier League, the Delhi Daredevils have roped in Bollywood daredevil Akshay Kumar to represent them. The team captained by ‘hot-in-news’ Virendra Sehwag is charged by this development. Reveals a source, “Akshay Kumar’s image truly represents the team’s spirit. His inclusion will inject more enthusiasm into the team.” And though the actor also has a stake in Delhi’s Daredevils, the source insists that it’s his love for cricket that’s prompted Akshay to sign up.Akshay was known to play cricket on the grounds near Red Fort and even hike to India Gate to indulge in his favourite sport during his Delhi days. Even now, the actor often takes time out of his hectic schedule to catch up with the action on field. Courtesy:

Akshay joins Bachchan world tour!
After their "Big Fat Bollywood Wedding", the Bachchan family seems to have emerged a brand of sorts. Currently, they are gearing
up for their world tour titled "Unforgettable" which will be the largest Bollywood tour ever conducted. It will travel to various
cities around the world and currently features Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu and Riteish Deshmukh.
After Lara Dutta opted out due to a leg injury, Akshay Kumar has stepped in once again (he was earlier supposed to be part of the tour). This only makes the tour even more promising than it already is, considering Akshay's 2007 hit-hat-trick. However, he will only perform in certain cities due to schedule constraints. Fans, hope that your city is one of them! Organizers are currently in the process of finalizing other popular Bollywood names for the tour. Many of them will only perform
in certain venues, which will keep the tour fresh and exciting and surprise audiences with guest appearances. Additionally, composers
Vishal and Shekhar will be part of the tour as well. Courtesy:

From waiter to Bollywood superstar
Akshay Kumar has come a long way and, besides being among the elite top-paid box-office stars in India, he now bids to dislodge Shah
Rukh Khan as the numero uno Bollywood hero.
In an industry dominated by the Khans, a plain Kumar has been quietly carving out his own special niche. The rise and rise of Akshay Kumar up the ever-slippery Bollywood ladder has amazed anyone remotely aware with the career path of the former waiter in a Bangkok restaurant whose lone claim to fame when he first entered the industry nearly two decades ago was his expertise in martial arts. Today, not only is the memory of those wretched days of waiting tables in a foreign land a mere blur for his numerous fans, but he is now winning plaudits for his histrionic talents. Besides, for the first time after coming to Bollywood, Akshay Kumar bids to dislodge Shah Rukh Khan as the numero uno hero.Neither of the other two Khans, Aamir and Salman, are rated number one in the box-office. Of course, all this is due to the super-duper success of several Akshay Kumar films. The year 2007 was exceedingly good for Akshay Kumar. He scored big on the box-office with four super-duper hits."Welcome", "Namastey London", "Heyy Babyy" and "Bhool Bhulaiyaa" together grossed over five billion rupees (S$173 million) in box-office collections. And, lo and behold, Bollywood was hailing the rise of a new star-hero. Without Lady Luck, the best of actors in Bollywood often come to grief. With Lady Luck smiling on them, the worst ones rise to the top in an industry that unabashedly worships but only box-office success. The late hero Rajinder Kumar used to say 'Khuda meharban, gadha pehlawan' (When God is kind, a donkey can be a lion). Kumar himself was dubbed Silver Jubilee Kumar for the large number of box-office hits in which he acted as a hero. However, there came a stage in his career when he lost his magic touch. After a string of duds on the box-office, he merely disappeared from the limelight. Akshay Kumar initially was more an action hero than an actor with histrionic talent. He could hardly emote but his genuine proficiency in martial arts coupled with his youthful good looks helped pull in the crowds to his early films. But added to his aura with the film-crazy fans was the perennial buzz about his romantic liaisons with various heroines. Whether by design or otherwise, he was also nicknamed Love Machine by the film press for his supposed serial affairs with film heroines. But the old Delhi boy from a family of modest means, who went to Bangkok in search of work with the assistance of an uncle already working there and soon landed a job as a waiter in a restaurant patronised by visiting Indians, could not have got where he has without Lady Luck smiling on him. For, while resigned to eking out a miserable living in Bangkok, Rajiv Bhatia, as he was then called, was spotted by Sridevi the reigning heroine of Bollywood. Taken up by the immense good looks of this young hunk of a waiter, she asked him to come to Bombay and try his luck in films. Soon Simple Simon found himself in Bollywood, assuming the screen name of Akshay Kumar. However his first few films were famously forgettableBut Akshay proved a fast learner. After the initial string of flops, he hit paydirt with "Khiladi". It was a huge hit. And producers followed it up with more films in the Khiladi genre. Action-cum-romance defined the early Akshay Kumar oeuvre. He was now a saleable star, but still a notch or two below the trio of Khans. The year 2007 changed all that. Now, he commands a price of 250 million rupees per film. And, what is more - he gets it, too. Before the four consecutive hits, his rate per film was about 20 million rupees. This is not all. He also demands a 50 per cent share in the profit of the film after it has recovered all its costs. In other words, he has joined Bollywood's big league. After establishing himself in Bollywood, Akshay married Twinkle, the star daughter of yesteryears' super-duper star couple, Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, and thus stilled all controversies and rumours linking him to nubile young heroines. With nearly two decades in the industry, he also shed his bohemian image, and began to concentrate on his career. He is now working with the best production houses. Some half a dozen films with Akshay in the lead are currently on the floors. He was recently quoted in the media as having said that following the release of his now-under-production films he would become the numero uno actor-star. Courtesy:

Katrina turns item girl for Akshay in "Blue"The good times continue for Katrina Kaif. The actress who had the unique distinction of delivering 4 hits last year ("Namstey London", "Apne", "Partner" and "Welcome") has been signing some really big and lucrative deals. However this one probably beats them all.Katrina has been offered a whopping Rs 1.5 crore for doing a dance number and a few more scenes in Shree Ashtavinayak's "Blue", which stars Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, and Lara Dutta in lead roles. The actress didn't deny the amount and has apparently allotted around ten days for the film in the month of May. Parag Desai, the media consultant of Shree Ashtavinayak confirmed having signed Katrina for "Blue" but didn't really confirm or deny the amount paid. In fact he even said that Katrina has a proper role in the film and not just an item number. Courtesy:

Akshay to romance Katrina amidst pyramids!
Akshay Kumar is hell bent on covering the Seven Wonders of the World. Currently, he is preparing to shoot action scenes on the Great
Wall of China and next month he plans a stint in Egypt amid the pyramids.
This time, it's for a song with Katrina Kaif in "Singh Is Kinng". "We'll be shooting the introductory song of the lead pair. This will be where Akshay first meets Katrina. The film is complete after this," Vipul Shah, who teamed up with Aneez Bazmi for the movie, told IANS. The last time a romantic song was shot amid the blow-dried pyramids of Egypt, it featured Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in Karan Johar's "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham"."Not surprising that Akshay wants the song to be canned in Egypt. He wants to better Shah Rukh Khan's success score with Kajol. Most trade pundits see Akshay and Katrina as the next most-successful couple after Shah Rukh-Kajol," the director said. After "Namastey London" and "Welcome", Akshay really feels Katrina is his lucky mascot."But we aren't shooting in all the normal places in Egypt. We want to capture parts of the country other than the predictable pyramids," Bazmi said. Courtesy:

Baap of 'em all!
He was born Rajiv Bhatia. A simple Chandni Chowk guy, whose day started at an unearthly hour of 5:30 every morning. "I used to accompany
my grandmother to the Gurudwara. It used to be beautiful, serene, divine," he tells me, reminiscing the mysticism of it all. This
simple man, because of his 5:30 a.m. prayers and hardwork, is today whom we call Akshay Kumar.
I met him on the sets of Singh Is Kinng . A sucker for time, Akshay is unassuming. I pose to him my first question: Why the need for a screen name? "Honestly, down the line I have forgotten why I opted for a screen name. Maybe there were just too many great Rajivs then, and I didn't want to be the first Rajiv-disaster. But I'm happy with Akshay Kumar. At least this way I get to go home and be my old self," confesses Raj...oops Akshay. And what is the 'old self' about? "Once you're home, you no longer have the larger-than-life perception most actors are bestowed with," he explains, "The old self is about spending time with your loved ones, performing your duties of a father, son, husband, brother; being without being judged, scrutinised, and looked at too closely."So is Akshay as successful a dad and husband as he is an entertainer? "I would love to believe that I am, but this question would be best answered by my wife, son and mother. I make as much effort as possible to be that special person in my son's life. Every minute spent with him is a day worth working for his future. I prefer not to 'act' at home. My wife can see straight through me. So it's best that I try and be a successful actor outside the house and let her bring out the best husband in me within it." Akshay and son Aarav make a wonderful baap-beta jodi . Are dreams of sharing screen space with his li'l one being secretly nurtured? "To be honest I've never really thought about it," shares the actor, "I don't even know if Aarav wants to be an actor. He's still just a kid, but if he does, I hopefully will be asking him if he has some dates free and if he could consider acting with me". And what would be Akki's reaction, if one day Aarav comes home with a six-pack? "It shouldn't be six-packs of beer," jokes Akshay. "If you're talking about six-pack abs, I'll tell him: I hope you realise that you inherited them from me! Nah...I'll be proud," he says in the end.I've heard about the adventure sports Akshay undertakes with his bonny boy. Is he trying to make Aarav macho like Daddy Dearest already? "I want to make him a sportsman, and a good human being," confesses Kumar, "And all that happens when you are tough on the outside and soft on the inside..." A great parenting tip! Twinkle, Aarav, Akshay. Is there the need to have a daughter to make the family complete? "Whatever has to happen will happen. We leave it all to nature," avers AK, "A family is always complete. By adding to it we only make it bigger, but the completeness of it is perennial. I never feel incomplete," he says wisely.Standing tall – literally speaking, success still hasn't made it to his head. And every hit is just another feather in his cap...or turban should we say? How come? "They say you're successful when 'it' goes to the head. I still haven't got the heady feeling," admits Akshay, "Must mean that I still have a long way to go, and that I'm nowhere near the finished line yet. I doubt I'm ever going to get there," he warns. Has Akshay's professional success made him a 'powerful' man? "I am as powerful as my last Friday release. I'm sure if I produced a flop all my hits will slowly fade away and become history. But at least I'll be able to say that I made history. Even the greatest are quietly forgotten, I just pray that I'm not forgotten too quickly," he says, looking up as if saying thank you to Him.So, does a powerful man have more enemies or more friends, I ask. "Well, a wise man once told me to keep my friends close and my enemies closer. Right now, no one is too close to me. So I'm either going to take it that I have no enemies, or that I must smell pretty bad," he concludes, laughing. Courtesy:

I'm talking Akki to Hollywood
It looks like Akshay Kumar is hellbent on making 2008-9 his year of actioners. In maverick producer Sajid Nadiadwala's "Kambhakt Ishq"
he plays a Hollywood stuntman.
Informs Sajid, "This would be the first Indian film to be shot within Universal Studios. We've got the permission not only to shoot within Universal Studios, but also to use their logo. Akshay Kumar plays a stuntman from Universal Studios. We also had amazing superstars from Hollywood. We're working out the legal aspects." The entire film is to be shot in Hollywood, Los Angeles. "It'll also star 12-15 leading actors from Hollywood in various parts. It's a candyfloss, 'safe' film. We had to bring in an extra gloss in the backdrop. That's why Hollywood. When I produced "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi" it was the first beach film in Bollywood. After that we had dozens of beach films in Hindi. Likewise my "Jaan-e-Mann" was the first rom-com with visual effects. While making full-on commercial films we need to change the backdrop."Sajid agrees shooting "Kambhakt Ishq" in Hollywood won't be an easy task. "It will be expensive, yes. We'll have 40-50 crew members flying to LA. We're thinking of chartering a flight from Mumbai. It'll be more economical. Or maybe we should just buy a jet," he jokes. This is Sajid's most ambitious film to date with a budget of Rs 60 crores. Kareena Kapoor plays a brand model. Courtesy:

Akki turns producer
Action king Akshay Kumar is all set to don a new mantle — that of producer.
With the launch of his own production house the superstar’s become the latest entrant to join the actor-turned-producer bandwagon that includes stars like Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan. His banner is called Hari Om Productions. "I think it’s finally time that I took the leap, so I’ve decided to throw myself in the deep end," said Akshay. Adding that he’s quite looking forward to this role, he said, "The past 18 years in the industry have been a great learning experience and I think I have enough knowledge to attempt my own production house. I have proven my mettle as a hard-working and dedicated actor and now I want to channelise the same force in providing world-class cinema in India."His first project will be helmed by a new director. Talking about encouraging new talent, the actor said, "Even as an actor, I’ve always been open to working with new directors. In fact, some of my biggest hits have been with new directors. So, I think it’s only fair that we give deserving talent a fair chance. It’s my way of giving back something to the industry. After all, I can never forget my days of struggle." Courtesy:

Saif Ali Khan to play "Joker"?Director Shirish Kunder’s ambitious project Joker has hit a few hurdles in the pre-production stages. This movie has been on Shirish’s mind right after he made his directorial debut in the bizarre but technically sound film "Jaan-E-Mann two years ago.
Since then, the director has crossed many hurdles in the project to get it thus far. Firstly, the film’s title was with another
producer. So Shirish had to request the producer to give him the title. That done, Shirish ran into another trouble when Shah Rukh
Khan – who had lent his support to the film – bowed out because of creative differences.
With SRK out of the picture, Shirish roped in Akshay Kumar to play the lead role in "Joker", which he (Kunder) decided to produce
himself. But now, the movie has hit another hurdle because Akshay is reported to have walked out.
Shirish Kunder says he is presently busy in the film’s pre-production and will confirm the cast at the right time. He has already got a big production house to co-produce "Joker". Now, that’s some progress. Courtesy:

Akshay is looking for a hit number![]() Talking about item numbers, actor Akshay Kumar along with producer Vipul Shah were on the lookout for that one song for the film "Singh Is Kinng" that would make a difference. When singer Mika learnt of this he immediately SMSed Akshay. His message read: Do you want a hit? Mika was called the very next day and briefed about a new track. We hear that he has rendered such a great song, that the demanding perfectionists, Vipul and Akshay are ‘hit’ with the outcome. Courtesy:

Sreejita De with Akshay in "Tashan"Sreejita De, who plays the chef in Star One's Annu Ki Hogayee Wah Bhai Wah is not new to facing cameras! For the uninitiated, the young and talented girl will be seen sharing screen space with Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Akshay Kumar in the soon to be released "Tashan". Sreejita, a student of Mass Media was earlier seen in Ekta's Karam Apna Apna and Kasauti Zindagi Kay, in not so important roles.Sreejita says, "I always wanted to play some substantial role and when I was short listed for DJ's new show Annu, I was very elated and felt very encouraged. The concept is very offbeat, yet people can relate to the situation through which Annu and her family go through". Looking forward to see Annu with Akki in Tashan! Courtesy:

Saif, Kareena & Akki's "Tashan"We are in the month of March already, and Bollywood has not managed to deliver the 'real punch' in terms of music. The business of "Jodhaa Akbar" has been decent while other soundtracks have not been able to make a space in the listeners' heart! "Race" of late, has been doing good business and so is the music of Ajay Devgan starrer, "U Me Aur Hum". Now as all eyes look forward to a change in trend, the soundtrack of "Tashan" is believed to have the music to out beat others in the market. "Jannat", with scores by Pritam will also be launched in this period and this surely looks to be a 'Clash of Titans'!"Tashan", the multi starrer project under Yashraj Films starring Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor hopes to rebuild the authority of Yashraj in the industry after a very average 2007, where only "Chak De India" managed to do wonders, along with "Tara Rum Pum" doing average business, while their other projects, "Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom", "Laaga Chunari Main Daag" and "Aaja Nachle" proved disasters at the box office! Vishal-Shekar have come up with some melodious and mind-blowing numbers and it is believed that "Tashan" will be one of the best projects of this season.Inside sources also confirm that Vishal-Shekar score a bonus with "Tashan", after giving the industry smashing scores in "Om Shanti Om". Well, as we await the much-talked about music of "Tashan" to hit the stands in the end of March, we only hope that the business as regards 'Music' in Bollywood rockets sky-high in the season to come. The Big surprise of "Singh is Kinng"
Vipul Shah’s "Singh is Kinng" is making news for all the right reasons and he seems to have everything going in his favour. Firstly
he got together the pair of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif who have had an almost 100% success ratio with films like "Namastey London" and
"Welcome". Then he made Akshay wear a diamond-studded turban throughout the film. For the first time Vipul Shah gave the directorial
reins of his film to someone else, Anees Bazmee. He also had Neha Dhupia in a negative role and made Sonu Sood hang from a skyscraper.
With every move for his film "Singh is Kinng", Vipul Shah has been pleasantly surprising us. But there’s more to go. After taking his film from Australia to Mumbai to Punjab, the unit is now planning a final schedule overseas. This time they are going to shoot a major chunk of their film in Egypt. But that’s not the surprise. So what is? The filmmaker just asks you to wait. "My biggest surprise from "Singh is Kinng" is yet to come", is the only thing that the director is willing to speak at the moment. We wonder what it will be. Courtesy:
